The Green Schools Committee will encourage sustainable principles that:

  • Enhance student and faculty performance
  • Optimize building performance to reduce operational costs


  • Education
  • Outreach
  • Advocacy


  1. Encourage local and/or state adoption of requirement to use LEED for Schools on all new and renovated schools built within the state
  2. Facilitate evaluation of existing schools for operation and energy improvements
  3. Provide education for Teachers, Staff and Administration, and members of local Boards of Education of school districts to the benefits of sustainable building and operation strategies
  4. Collect and make tools available to teachers for incorporating green principles into teaching curriculum
  5. Develop the political will and practical tools to fund the goals of the green schools initiative
